Kate found her feet!

Being parents is the greatest blessing.

Snuggles while mom clips roses!

Kate's gummy smile!

She loves this play mat!

Kate can sit up enough for dad to balance her on one hand!

Mom doesn't get so many pictures with baby girl, so we rely on mirror pictures sometimes! I love how she nuzzles into my neck, chest, and face. And I love her naked chubby body!

Kate found her feet today! She just grabbed then mid diaper change! She looks very surprised to have found them! She loves her feet and it is the cutest thing in the world!

Selfie with mommy!

We love bath time!

Kate is getting more comfortable with tummy time.

Laying in mom and dads bed is one of our favorite things!

Kate's first pair of shoes! So daring with daddy!

Mom and Kate went for a run today!

Baby girl is 14 weeks old today! I cannot get over how precious this age is. We are loving her more and more everyday!  She talks SO much. She makes a noise like a wooky for Star Wars, and one that is super high pitched and one that just sounds like a yell/scold. It is so adorable!

I will never get sick of sweet, sleeping pictures.

Week with dad!

This week, Chase got to stay home with Kate during a break from school. I got these darling pictures while I was at work.

I missed my baby! Dad weeded the garden while we snuggled. We love summer nights!

Baby girls first shoulder ride!

Mom loves coming home to this face!

Recovery

I think my recovery from Kate’s birth has gone really well. Sliding off of my bed in the hospital was a little sore, but once we were home I was fine. I was able to “go” only a few hours after having Kate, and only experience a minor hemorrhoid. I did tear, but I was healed up just fine only 2-3 weeks later. My biggest setback was having a new, tiny tear to the side of my scar tissue between weeks 3 and 6, but that went away too. I did have an episode of contraction like cramps when Kate was only a few weeks old for about an hour. That had me really nervous! Talk about PTSD—I was so afraid to have more contractions! But it only happened one time. I got an IUD at 6 weeks and had almost no cramping and had only light bleeding for 6-7 weeks.

Mentally and emotionally, I could not have asked for a better post-partum experience. I didn’t have baby blues in the least. I was as happy as I have ever felt in my life. I specifically felt and overwhelming love for Chase and our marriage. And I adored Kate more than I thought I could. I was “spongy” for about a month. Anything made me cry! I think I was even less irritable! It was a sweet time and I will cherish the newborn stage with Kate and Chase forever.

Getting my body back after Kate has been a good experience. I think I have learned an appreciation for my body, different than the appreciation I had as an athlete. I have stretch marks on my boobs, and under my belly button. I still have the linera negra, even though it is light. Both the line and stretch marks are fading. My boobs definitely look different, and that’s ok. I also noticed my butt is much flatter after being pregnant. After the marathon in October, the following 7 months were probably the most inactive of my life. Next time I will try to be better about that, which won’t be hard with Kate running around. And I also had the expected extra donut of fat around my belly button.

When I got pregnant I weighed 145 pounds. I like to be at 138. I didn’t gain a pound until I was 16 weeks, then I gained 42 over the next 24 weeks! I delivered at 187 pounds. And when I got home, I had only lost 9 pounds! That is pretty much Kate’s 8 pounds 2 ounces and maybe the placenta. But I had several bags of fluid pumped into me, so that made a big difference. And then when Kate was 9 days old, I had lost 30 pounds! Most of it was water I think. I was stuck at 157 pounds for a couple weeks, then slowly it came off. At 13 weeks, I am now at 149 pounds.

I started running when Kate was 29 days old. I ran one mile in 12 minutes. The next day I ran one mile in 11 minutes. The next day I ran one mile in 9:30. All of this was with the stroller. Then the fourth day, I ran one mile on the track without the stroller in 7:40! I was very proud of myself. I ran 1-2 miles each day for a couple more weeks. In July I did GGP (crossfit), and that felt amazing! It’s really expensive so I only did one month. Then I started work in August and I didn’t work out for almost two weeks. And now I have 5+ weeks until the Huntsville half marathon! I am feeling good physically and I am happy with how my body is doing. What a miracle the whole process is! I got pregnant almost exactly one year ago and I am amazed at the process my body has gone through!

This is July 1 on the left and August 1 on the right.

And these were both in April 2015 before I was pregnant.

I think it is important for me to see these pictures because I can See how far I have come and that makes me feel great! And I can see how I need to keep working hard to maintain a healthy body and not let myself lose fitness over time, even after having a sweet baby. Kate is worth every little mark and pound!

Back to Work for Mom!

Today was my first day back to work since Kate was born. She is 12 weeks and 1 day old. I am going back Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8-4. I was so nervous about going back to work! The night before, I got teary with Dad in bed. I wanted to stay with my baby! I was so nervous about having someone else take care of Kate. I didn't want Kate to feel too much stress from being driven around, not being home, not being with me, etc. This morning, Kate woke up right in time for me to feed her, and I got her all ready to go. It made it so much easier that Chase took her, rather than having me drop her off. Kate spent the day with Megan, Tony, and Connie. She did great! She slept her usual 30-40 minutes, and played for 90 or so minutes. She ate 4 ounces after each nap. Basically she is perfect! She is such an easy baby.

Work went well too. I was so relieved with how smooth it all went. I was able to relax and get back into work. I am really grateful I have family willing to help care for Kate, and a fantastic job, boss, and co-workers that made the transition so smooth.

That night Kate and I snuggled and I gave her a pedicure! SO DARLING. There are few things cuter than painted baby toes!

Waking up

Most mornings, I get to put you in bed with me and we snuggle until we are both awake. Some mornings dad will put you in bed with me after changing you. Mornings with you are my favorite! You are so sweet, wide awake and so smiley! You talk a lot in the mornings. I love you!

Today you also started holding you binky with your hands, it's adorable!

Lauren's birthday!

Today is Lauren's 28th birthday! We went to the Ogden Christmas box House to meet with a lady about what books are needed at the donation center. It was really need to talk about the kind of programs they have. The Christmas box House is an emergency short-term place for children to go when they need to be taken out of a dangerous or abusive situation at home. It gives them a chance to transition from home life to foster care or in some circumstances back to home life. By raising $1,100, we were able to donate $1,652 worth of Usborne books. I am really hoping to be able to do more book drives and fundraisers for similar organizations in the future.

After lunch at Dylans, we went swimming at moms house. Lauren invited some friends over with their kids. It's always a fun time to relax in the backyard and enjoy the sun. Kate likes the water whether it's a bath or the pool. I'm excited for next year when Kate is big enough to get a little sunshine and start learning to swim.

Kate got to try a bumbo today. She's not so sure she likes it! But she sure looks cute! This is Kate's (mom's) favorite bow.

Kate is always happy to see daddy when he gets home from a school! She was talking up a storm when he held her.

That night we went to a dance class with all the girls and it was a blast! I'm terrible, but we had fun!

Kate's Blessing

Giving of name and blessing to Kate Reynolds
Given by her father, Chase Reynolds
Sunday June 5, 2016 in the Bountiful 27th Ward sacrament meeting

"Our Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, and by the authority of the Melchizedek Priesthood that we hold, we take this infant in our arms to give her a name and a blessing. The name by which she will be known throughout her life, and on the records of the church, is Kate Reynolds.

"Kate, at this time we also wish to give you a blessing. We bless you in your life that you may be a force for good, that you may always seek first the things of righteousness and be a strong member of your family and a support to everyone around you. We bless you to continue to grow strong and healthy. We bless your mind that you will have a strong intellect and seek to always further your understanding of the things pertaining to the eternities and also those things that pertain to more temporal subjects. We bless you Kate that you may always strive to be an example to those around you. You have such a sweet spirit and are so calming to those that around you and we bless to always continue to have a good influence on others, that you may find opportunities to help those that are less fortunate, and give a hand up to those in need. We bless you to always stay close to our Heavenly Father and know that he loves you and wants nothing but the best for you. Also know that your parents are so grateful for you in our family. You have already changed our lives and continue to do so. We bless you to be able to, one day, meet a worthy young man and be married and sealed to him for all eternity and to raise a family in righteousness. We bless you, Kate, that you may be happy and find successes in life and learn from you mistakes and failures and always be stronger because of them. We bless you with all of these things and any other blessings that our Heavenly Father has in store for you. These things we do in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen."
